LD Update: New women's league update; NASL & USL Pro Game Night

NASL: FC Edmonton 1:1 San Antonio Scorpions - The Scorpions failed to use their game in hand in a midweek contest to push their one-point lead to four. The visitors took the initial lead 23 minutes in when Jonathan Greenfield picked up a good through ball from Pablo Campos and put it past Lance Parker. Moments before the break Serisay Barthelemy connected with Yashir Pinto to level the score. Halftime turned into a three-hour break due to the weather and upon resumption of play, the two played to a stalemate despite San Antonion losing Josue Soto to a second yellow in the 64th. Pinto nearly scored on two late chances, failing to put away the rebound on a Kyle Porter shot in the 80th and sending another off the post five minutes later. - MORE

Women's Soccer Summit: Add CONCACAF to the list

The United States Women's National Team delivered an emphatic win in front of a sold-out crowd in Philadelphia Sunday, downing a young Chinese team 4-1. But the bigger news to come out of PPL Park were the comments by US Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati that there will be a gathering of the nation's top soccer organizations by the end of June to discuss the future of the women's game.

“We will reach out to a number of people that are involved in the game, whether it’s, as I mentioned, the USL, or MLS or individual teams from the WPS and have a broader group come in and talk about it and see what is the best model that we can get consensus around going forward,” said Gulati. “And that may not be a model that starts off like the WPS, or the WUSA, or the W-League – I don’t know what that model is, but we’ll certainly look at it. And then what we do with the national team program will partly fit in around that and partly lead that.”

LD Update: Carolina & LA signings; WPS is done

NASL News: The Carolina RailHawks announced the addition of rookie defenders Nick Millington and Jamie Finch.

USL Pro News: The Los Angeles Blues officially announced they have signed former MLS striker Maykel Galindo.

PDL News: The league announced Des Moines Menace forward Husref Jupic as the Player of the Week along with the Team of the Week.

W-League News: The Pali Blues topped the New Zealand U-20 National Team in a friendly, 3-0.

WPS News: On the Facebook page, Women's Professional Soccer announced that in addition to coming to a settlement with estranged owner Dan Borislow, the WPS Board of Governors agreed to permanently suspend operations and dissolve the league, leaving the USL W-League and WPSL as the remaining women's leagues of note.
