Tropical Depression Matthew made waves this week in the region, resulting in numerous match postponements, many of which will be made up this Wednesday. But while the storm may have upset the scheduled action, underdogs were unable to register any upsets in the games that were played as the favorites were largely unscathed this week as most leagues are at the heart of the campaign.
Note: The TSB Pro Power Rankings will not be issued this week due to the postponements.
Costa Rica
The clash of the top two sides in Group A resulted in a scoreless stalemate with leader Barrio Mexico able to extend its unbeaten run to six matches as host Cartagines was unable to crack the defense of the league’s second best side in the table and defensively. Perez Zeledon, previously last, continued its rise from the bottom with a second consecutive victory and now sits just three points back of Cartagines. The group’s other match was postponed due to field conditions, a fortunate break for Saprissa, which is set to continue CONCACAF Champions League play midweek. Group B leader Alajuelense suffered the same fate as they were unable to find a goal in a scoreless draw, maintaining its unbeaten status. The draw allowed 3-0 winners Herediano to pull within six points of the league leaders though.
