LD Five Stars - Round 2

Five Stars of the Week – Round 2

1 – Reinaldo Navia – F – Atlanta Silverbacks: Scored two goals in a 4-4 draw against Carolina, the second coming while playing a man down.

2 – John Rooney – F – Orlando City: The striker gave the Wilmington Hammerheads a rude opening to their season, tallying two goals (one penalty) and an assist in the contest.



3 – Matt VanOekel – G – Minnesota Stars: Made several good stops on the road versus Fort Lauderdale in second consecutive scoreless draw.

4 – Jonathan Fana – F – Puerto Rico Islanders: Scored twice on the road to spoil expansion San Antonio’s home opener in a 4-0 victory.

5 – Sascha Goerres – D – Richmond Kickers: Late game-winning strike from 35 yards ended Richmond’s drought in Charleston dating back to 2004 (0-5-1).

Five Stars for the Season

First Five:

1 – Stefan Smith – F – Antigua Barracuda:
Remains at the top though idle in Round 2. He was dangerous in a pair of Round 1 games, sending a shot off the post in a 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh the first night and then scored twice in a 3-1 win two nights later after being fouled for a penalty (missed by Peter Byers). Previous: 1

2 – Richard Martin – G – Puerto Rico Islanders: One of three goalkeepers in the NASL with shutouts in the first two games, Martin has 12 saves total, shutting out visiting Tampa Bay 1-0 in Round 1 and blanking San Antonio in their home debut in Round 2. Previous: NR

3 – Stanley Nyazamba – M – Richmond Kickers: In Round 1 he set up two great chances before scoring himself. This week he added another goal, an equalizer on a penalty for Richmond’s 2-1 win at Charleston. Previous: 4

4 – Jose Cuevas – F – Charleston Battery: He scored two goals on the road to beat Richmond 2-1 last week, but only created on good scoring opportunity in Round 2 at home in a 2-1 loss to the Kickers. Previous: 1

5 – John Rooney – F – Orlando City: Two goals and an assist in the 4-1 win over Wilmington in Round 2. Previous: NR
