LD Update: NASL Game Night; PDL Opener & News

FC Edmonton 3:4 Minnesota Stars – Both clubs went into the contest without a goal or a win. In the end, a Devin Del Do tally on the final play of the game gave Minnesota the road win and immediately vaulted the team into a three-way tie for second. For Edmonton, it was the duo of Shaun Saiko and Yashir Pinto that were key for the home side. Pinto found Saiko for the opener just five minutes in.

Minnesota leveled four minutes later on a Neil Hlavaty penalty and also went up a man as a result of the take down in the box. A loose ball on a free kick allowed Kyle Altman to give the visitors the advantage in the 16th.

Pinto forced Altman to take him down in the 29th, putting the two clubs on level terms. Edmonton would take advantage in the second half with Paul Hamilton heading in a Saiko free kick in the 52nd. Then in the 64th Pinto headed a ball back across the goal to Kyle Porter for the point-blank header and renewed lead.

It only took four minutes for Minnesota to answer with a low cross that perfectly set up Kentaro Takada for the equalizer. – More

PDL Opener: Fresno Fuego 4:1 LA Misioneros – In front of over 4,200 fans, the home side dominated the opening contest of the season Sunday afternoon at Chukchansi Park. First-year player Alex Caceres tallied the opener in the 30th minute with Paul Islas, back after a two-year absence, notching the next two for a 3-0 lead at the break. An early Misioneros goal in the second half gave the visitors some hope, but Araia Berhane restored the three-goal advantage with the night’s final tally in the 57th.

PDL News: The North Sound SeaWolves announced the addition of three players from the University of Washington, including two Washington natives who have previous PDL experience with rivals Tacoma Tide and Washington Crossfire… The Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors added a pair of assistant coaches to the team staff, both of which have previously played under head coach Scott Reitnour.
