LD Update: NASL, USL Pro & ACC Game Night; Expansion news

The only lower division winners on the night were the Wilmington Hammerheads. Another game in the NASL, another draw. The league has had more than half its contests (19) finish tied (10) with another six decided by one goal. FC Edmonton's odds of reaching the Canadian Championship final were made long with a loss at home.

Carolina RailHawks 3:3 Fort Lauderdale Strikers - Brian Shriver scored four minutes before the break and set up Nick Zimmerman to give the hosts a 2-0 lead two minutes into the second half. Lance Laing tallied for the Strikers on the hour mark to close the gap before Zimmerman notched his second in the 65th to restore the two-goal advantage, but it was not enough. Walter Restrepo answered less than two minutes later and found Mark Anderson for the equalizer in the 77th. - More

Wilmington Hammerheads 3:0 Antigua Barracudas - Antigua's first-ever trip to the Carolina's and first road contest of the season did not go well. Andriy Budnyy opened the night nine minutes in and Bryce Taylor doubled the lead four minutes later. Budnyy would add a second in the 76th to put the match out of reach as Alexander Horwath recorded his third consecutive clean sheet. - More

Amway Canadian Championship: Eric Hassli tallied his first goal of the year for the Vancouver Whitecaps to open the scoring on the road against FC Edmonton in the 19th minute. Atiba Harris doubled the lead four minutes before the break with the second half going scoreless in a 2-0 result... Former lower division side Montreal Impact played to a scoreless draw at home against Toronto FC in their debut match in the ACC as an MLS club.

Expansion News: Steven Sandor of the11.ca reported yesterday that current USL PDL club Ottawa Fury will not be joining the NASL until 2014 instead of the previously projected 2013 due to the timeline regarding the redevelopment of Frank Clair Stadium for soccer and the Canadian Football League.

PDL Signings: The North Sound SeaWolves announced the signing of three players, including former youth internationals Buba Findi Jammeh (Gambia) and Nasyir Rodriguez (T&T)... A St Louis Lions original, Alen Braderic is returning for his seventh campaign with the club.

W-League Signing: The Colorado Rapids Women added a pair of standouts with Australian international Brooke Spence and former WPS goalkeeper Lauren Robertson.

WPSL News: The New England Mutiny added six players to the roster for the upcoming season... The New York Athletic club announced current NYU head coach Michele Canning as the team's assistant coach under Kim Wyant.
